Hemp Products
Hemp is an environmentally friendly plant which produces one of the strongest, most insulating, and absorbent fibers of all naturally occurring fibers. Hemp can be used for a variety of different purposes including rope, clothing, bags, bath and body products, dietary supplement, and paper products. Although this is an extremely versatile plant it has had an illustrious history. Here are some interesting hemp facts:
1619: Jamestown colony in Virginia passes the New World's first hemp law, making it illegal NOT to grow hemp for sails, rope, clothing and other important items.
1776: Thomas Jefferson, a hemp grower, drafts the Declaration of Independence on hemp paper which was later transferred to parchment.
1941: Ford Motor Co. unveils a plastic concept car made from 70% hemp and other natural fibers & 30% resin.
1957: Wisconsin farmers grow the last hemp crop in the USA.
1998: Canada and Australia legalize hemp farms, leaving the US as the world's only industrialized nation that outlaws growing hemp, which remains the case today in 2009.
